Belfast City Airport is a single runway airport located approximately 2 miles from Belfast City centre. The airport served almost 2.2 million passengers in 2007, making it quite a valuable asset to Ireland's air traffic. It is a major base for the airline Flybe, which began operations at Belfast in 1993 and is now the largest operator at Belfast City Airport.
In 1937, an airfield was established near Shorts beside their factory & was named Sydenham Airport. This was Belfast's main airport for approximately one year, until The Royal Navy took it over during the Second World War. It was continuously used by the military until 1670s when Shorts requisitioned the airfield. It was not until 1983, that airlines began to show interest in the airfield and returned it for customers as Belfast Harbour Airport.
Being only 2 miles from Belfast City centre, the airport is in perfect location for a short drive into the main stores, facilities and places to visit.
