Car Hire Shannon Airport

Shannon airport, being the third busiest in Ireland serving 3.1 million passengers in 2008, is located near the 'new town' of Shannon. The airport itself has been hit hard with airlines pulling out completely and other reducing the number of flights available, however the airport was also seeing a lot of military presence. With military stopovers mainly from America and Russia (when Ireland wasn't part of NATO).

In 1930, transatlantic air traffic was dominated by Flying Boats and a flying boat terminal was situated south of Shannon Estuary at Foynes. It was in 1936 that the Irish government decided that it would develop a 3.1km squared site Rineanna, work was started. By 1942, Shannon Airport was established and was a fully working gateway between Europe & America. The amount of traffic the aiport received rose sharply after World War 2 and in 1958, Aer Lingus started a translantic service to New York. However, the 1990's saw some bad years for Shannon Airport, which it struggled to continue, but it finally kicked back in the late 1990's with the Irish economy.

Upon arriving to Shannon airport, a 15 minute drive to Limerick city is irresistible due to it being one of the main tourist attracted cities in Ireland. Arriving at Limerick with the cheapest car hire and strolling the beautiful streets will find yourself coming across Street Ambassadors, who will make sure you enjoy your stay within the city.
