The amount of traffic the aiport received rose sharply after World War 2 and in 1958, Aer Lingus started a translantic service to New York. However, the 1990's saw some bad years for Shannon Airport, which it struggled to continue, but it finally kicked back in the late 1990's with the Irish economy.
