Discover Belfast
The city of Belfast is the capital of North Ireland, being the largest urban area in the Ulster province with having a population of 267,500. It is sat within the centre of the metropolitan Belfast, which has a total population count of 483,418. Through history, Belfast has been the main hub for the Irish linen industry, tobacco production, shipbuilding and rope making, playing a major role within the industrial revolution until the late half of the 20th century.
In Belfast, there is a lot to do. Boasting fantastic attractions, events, shops and more, Belfast can easily please most people upon arrival. After taking a nice drive around the countryside or visiting the main attractions, Belfast has over forty parks to choose from. One of the most popular parks, Botanic Gardens is a fantastic place to visit. Being built in the 1830's and having a good number of visitors (700,000 in 2005), Botanic Gardens is a must see for anyone visiting the Belfast area.
If parks or attractions don't take your fancy, Belfast's Victoria Square (a 400 million pound shopping centre) is a huge complex consisting of a wide variety of shops & stores, cinema, restaurants and more. Featuring the largest House of Fraser store, the Victoria Square is the place to visit for shoppers.
