Discover Shannon

The town of Shannon is simply named after the river that flows near it, and is one of only three planned towns in Ireland. The town was built on reclaimed marshland alongside the newly established Shannon Airport, along with the Shannon free zone industrial estate. The original purpose of the town subsided after unplanned population growth, which was a home for workers at the nearby airport, industrial and support services.

Being a small town, Shannon can still offer visitors a competent range of things to do. Tourist attractions and activities range from shopping at the local Sky Court Shannon shopping centre, while the children enjoy the fun at Tír na nóg playground. Relax or warm yourself up with the Shannon Leisure and Swimming Centre, or maybe a few holes of golf at the Golf Club?

Along with a great line of things to do in Shannon, there are some amazing local bars and restaurants serving delicious food, which a few are housed in the Sky Court shopping centre.

Ireland is an amazing place to visit year-round...
